St. Hyacinth (1185 - 1257) was a Dominican missionary. He is also called "The Apostle of Poland". He was born in Oppeln, Poland. He received the Dominican habit from St. Dominic. Hyacinth preached in Poland, Pomerania, Denmark, Prussia, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, Russia, China, and Tibet. He died in Cracow, Poland, on August 15. Hyacinth was canonized in 1594. His feast is now confined to local calendars.

St. Hyacinth please pray for the word of God to continue spreading throughout the world and let the peace of God be present everywhere especially in Afghanistan during these trying times.
