First Martyrs of the See of Rome (d. 64) were the holy men and women are also called the "Protomartyrs of Rome." Emperor Nero of Rome burned the city of Rome to cover his crimes, but blamed the Christians for this act and persecuted the Christians. Some martyrs were burned as living torches at evening banquets, some crucified, others were fed to wild animals. These martyrs died even before the martyrdom of the apostles and they were seeds for the church.
