St. Sabas the Goth (334-372) was a Goth (a member of a Germanic people that invaded the Roman Empire from the east between the 3rd and 5th centuries) who converted to Christianity in his youth. He survived several persecutions of the local Church under the pagan Goths. He was later captured by the Goths and ordered to eat meat that had been sacrificed to idols. Sabas was brutally tortured with several other Christians as he refused to eat that meat. Sabas was finally drowned in the Mussovo River, near Targoviste. About fifty others were put to death with him.

St. Sabas please pray for us to not be influenced by the culture and society around us but to keep our eyes focused on God.
