St. Maximus (580-662) was one of the Church's most intellectual theologians and instructors in practical Christian spiritual life. St. Maximus left a important government post to become a simple monk. St. Maximus defended the true faith of Christ being fully divine and fully human. He was persecuted by and put on trial three times. The persecutors had his tongue and right hand with which he had so eloquently defended the Faith cut off, and he was sent into exile to what is now Tsageri, Georgia, where he soon died on August 13, 662.
St. Maximus pray for us to be able to learn more about God every day.
