St. Maximus of Rome (d. 250) was a martyr in Rome. When the edict (an official document that was written) condemning Christians was announced by the Emperor Trajanus Decius, Maximus, a local merchant, presented himself to the local judge. Maximus was ordered to sacrifice to the goddess Diana but Maximus refused. Because of Maximus's refusal to sacrifice to the goddess Diana he was tortured and stoned to death on May 14.

St. Maximus make our hearts as brave as yours.
