St. Barbara (d. 3rd century) was born in Heliopolis, Phoenicia. She was born to a pagan father and mother. After the death of her mother, her father dedicated his life to Barbara. He saw that she was extremely beautiful so she locked her up in the house but gave her education of the pagan faith. Barbara always looked out the windows and thought of a God who created all the beauty in this world. She secretly converted to Christianity. Her father later found out about her conversion and was extremely mad and he took her to the government for punishment. Martianus tortured her and later condemned her to die by the hands of her own father, Dioscorus. Seen as a punishment for their actions, Dioscorus and Martianus were both killed after being struck by lightning.

St. Barbara please pray for protection for us against lightning.
