St. Brigid of Ireland (451 - 525) was born into slavery and it was known immediately that she would live a holy life, because when the person who owned her mother would try to feed Brigid, she would not be able to hold any food down as he was an impure man. There is a legend that said that the infant Brigid was sustained by a white cow with red ears. When she was old enough she was returned back to her father and she started charitable givings. Seeing this her father tried to sell her to a Christian King. But the King saw that she was holy and gave her freedom. She later joined a monastery and started two monastic institutions; one for men and one for women.
St. Brigid help us to renounce the slavery of sin in our lives.
