St. Valentine (d. 269) is commonly associated with "courtly love". Judge Asterius of Rome had a blind daughter and the judge told St. Valentine that he would do anything in return for healing his daughter's vision. After healing her vision St. Valentine only asked for the conversion of Judge Asterius. Judge Asterius kept his word and converted to Christianity. St. Valentine was also known to convert many people in Rome. He was also known to marry Christian couples and help the Christians who were persecuted by Claudius. Claudius asked St. Valentine to renounce his faith. St. Valentine did not renounce his faith but also tried to convert Claudius. This made Claudius angry and he ordered the execution of St. Valentine on February 14, 269.
St. Valentine help us to always have love in our hearts and pray for holy marriages in our dioceses.
