St. Simon or Simeon has been mentioned in St. Mathew's gospel as a brethren of Jesus. This is true because Simon's father was Cleophas who was St. Joseph's brother and Simon's mother was Mother Mary's sister and hence Simon was Jesus's cousin. He grew old to the age of 120 years and helped the conversion of many people to Christianity. Atticus the Roman governor condemned him to death after being tortured and then crucified. Simeon endured his sufferings with a great degree of fortitude which made the governor admire Simeon.
St. Simon in times of adversity give us an heart of fortitude.
