St. Peter Damian (1007 - 1072) lost his parents at a very young age. His brother who was supposed to care for him after his parents death, but he treated Peter like a slave. His brother made him tend swine and when another one of Peter's brothers who was named Damian saw Peter and he felt pity for little Peter and Damian decided to send Peter to school to learn. Peter considered this brother as his parental figure and took his last name and became Peter Damian. Peter started praying, fasting and taking care of poor people and he also liked to feed the poor with his hands. He later left all his earthly life and became a monk.
