St. Anthony of Egypt (251 - 356) at the age of 20 was so moved by the Gospel: "Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor" that he sold his large inheritance and lived in solitude. St. Anthony drew many people to him for guidance and spiritual healing. During the Roman persecution of 311 he bravely exposed himself to the dangers of persecution hoping to die a martyr; but he also provided the people in jail with moral and material support.
St. Anthony is often shown with a T shaped cross, a pig and a book. The pig represented the devil and the T shaped cross represented his power over the evil spirits.
St. Anthony help us to fight the devil in our every day life.
