St. Sebastian (d. 288) joined the Roman army in 283 AD ostensibly to be servicing other Christians who were being persecuted by the Roman empire. During his time in the army, there were two twin brothers who were imprisoned because they would not sacrifice to the Roman gods. The parents of these twin brothers came to the prison to convince them to rebuke Christianity. St. Sebastian instead converted the parents to Christianity. When the emperor found out about this he ordered St. Sebastian to be killed by being target for arrow practice. He was so filled with arrows that he was described to have looked like an urchin. The guards thought that he was dead and threw his body, but a lady found him and nursed him back to health. St. Sebastian went back to the emperor and started publicly shaming him for his persecutions against Christians. The emperor then ordered him to beaten to death by clubs and thrown into the sewers. St. Sebastian's body was rescued by another lady and buried in catacombs.
O brave St. Sebastian helps us to die for God from our sinful ways.
