St. Francis de Sales (1567 - 1622) was born in a noble family and his father wanted him to be have a career in politics and law, although he wanted to serve God. But to please his father he graduated in law and also took up horse riding and fencing. He continued to pray and grow closer to God in secret. One day while he was riding his horse he fell down 3 times and each time he fell his sword and scabbard fell in the shape of a cross and this he took as a sign from above and after much discussion and disagreement he got ordinated as a priest. He later went on to convert the protestants back to the faith, but they closed the doors to him and threw rocks at him. He then wrote letters guiding them back to the faith and slid it under the door. Through his letters he was able to convert around 40,000 people back to the church.
St. Francis de Sales help us be patient and consistent in our missionary work on earth.
