St. Onouphrius was a hermit and his life is mostly known from his disciple Paphnutius. Paphnutius met Onouphrius in an Egyptian desert. Onouphrius became a monk at a cenobitic monastery near Thebes. He later left the monastery to lead an eremitical life. For almost 60 to 70 years Onouphrius lived alone in the desert and wore only his hair and a loincloth of leaves.
St. Onouphrius please pray for us to be closer to God by being humble and simple like you.
