St. Joseph the Hymnographer (810 - 886) was a very talented Greek hymn writer. He was a native of Sicily. He was forced to leave his island in 830 in the wake of an invasion by the Arabs and he went through Thessalonica and reached Constantinople. In 841 he abanoded Constantinople and left for Rome to avoid the persecutions. On his way to Rome he was captured by pirates and was held for several years in Crete as a slave. He later escaped and went back to Constantinople and started a monastery. Joseph is also credited for composing around one thousand canons (laws of the church).
St. Joseph the Hymnographer pray for us to be able to praise God always like you did.
