St. Patrick (387 - 461) is one of the world's most popular saints. His symbol is the shamrock (the 3 leaved clover) because he used the shamrock leaves to explain the Holy Trinity by showing that each of those leaves although separate are part of the one same leaf. He was never officially canonized, but early Christians declared him as a saint. When he was a young teenage boy he was kidnapped by Irish pirates and forced into slavery. St. Patrick however, thought that this capture brought him closer to God as he prayed constantly day and night. St. Patrick received a dream where God told him that his freedom was waiting for him. He then found an opportunity and escaped the captivity via a ship. St. Patrick then studied and got ordained as a bishop. St. Patrick preached and converted all of Ireland for 40 years.
St. Patrick help us understand God in simple ways like you did with the shamrock.
