St. Berthold (d. 1195) is referred to by some historians as the founder of the Carmelite Order. He was born in France and was a brilliant student in the University of Paris. He was ordained a priest and joined his brother Aymeric the Latin patriarch of Antioch, in Turkey, on the Crusades (A war between Christians and Muslims to regain the holy sites of Christians). Berthold created a group of hermits on Mount Carmel and he headed the Carmelites for forty-five years.
St. Berthold help us to be brave like you to stand up in courage when our church is persecuted.
