St. Katharine Drexel (1858 - 1955) is the second American born saint to be canonized by the Catholic Church. She was an heiress to a large inheritance. Her mother passed away five weeks after she was born. Katharine's step mother looked after her and her step sister along with their father to love God. Katherine saw her father pray for half an hour every day. Katherine's father and step mother used to open their home for the poor. Although her family was very wealthy, Katherine always lived a very Christian and ordinary life. She started a religious congregation called the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for Indians and Colored and from age 33 till she died she spent her time and money towards this congregation.
St. Katherine pray for us to have a soul to not be consumed by materialistic things.
