St. Colette (1380 - 1447) was the daughter of a carpenter in France. She was christened by the name of Nicolette and hence called Colette. At 17 years of age she became an orphan. She gave away all her inheritance to the poor and became a nun and lived in solitude. She was known for her holiness and spiritual wisdom. In 1406 she had a dream in which she was instructed to reform the order of nuns that belonged to the Poor Clares order. Colette founded seventeen convents with the reformed rule and reformed several older convents despite several oppositions. She was known for her holiness, visions of the passion and she even prophesied her own death. A branch of the Poor Clares sisters are still known as the Collettines.
St. Colette please help us perceive in our calling despite the oppositions we may face to achieve our goal.
