Sts. Perpetua and Felicity (d. 203) lived during the early persecutions of the church in Africa. Perpetua's mother was a Christian and so she decided to follow her mother's foot steps and become a Christian even though she was well aware of the persecutions that were taking place at the time by Emperor Severus. She was a well-educated and high spirited noblewoman. Her father was a pagan and was against her becoming a Christian. Perpetua along with a slave Felicity were jailed for being a Christian. Since they did not waver from their faith, they were thrown to be eaten by wild beasts along with several other Christian men. After the men were torn apart by the beasts, the crowds chanted that they had enough and so Perpetua and Felicity were then thrown back into the arena to face the gladiators. They stood side by side and were killed by sword at Carthage in the Roman province of Africa.
Sts. Perpetua and Felicity help us be unwavering in our faith when we are faced with difficulties in our lives.
