St. Atilano Cruz Alvarado (1901 - 1928) lived in Mexico and as a boy tended cattle. At the age of seventeen, he began studying for the priesthood. Fr. Cruz became a priest during the time of the most violent persecution of Catholics in Mexico. On June 29, 1928, Father Cruz went to join his pastor, (Saint) Justino Orona Madrigal at a nearby ranch. As government troops raided the ranch at dawn on July 1, Father Cruz heard the soldiers gunning down Father Orona. Fr. Cruz then knelt and started praying to await for the troops. When the soldiers found Fr. Cruz, they executed him.

St. Atilano please help us to turn to prayer especially in times where there are no hope left.
